The apostille is a special form of superordinate certification. In a similar way to standard forms of superordinate certification, an apostille confirms the genuine nature of the signature and the stamp of a notary public on a document. In addition, any item of correspondence bearing an apostille is also deemed in the target country to have been duly certified, provided that the country in question is a signatory to the Hague Convention. There is then no longer any need for additional certification by the consulate or the embassy.
The apostille speeds up international legal correspondence
The ‘apostille’ was voted into being on 5 October 1961 during the Hague Convention. Since that time, it has helped to simplify international correspondence involving certificates. Documents bearing the square imprint are deemed to be certified in all member states without first having to be examined by a diplomat or by a member of the consulate staff. This simplification greatly speeds up bureaucratic procedures associated with the international exchange of certificates.
It is therefore not surprising that 99 countries have now signed up to the Hague Convention – a rising trend. Very significant economic areas are included in this, e.g. Europe, large parts of Asia or the United States of America. The USA is also now working on an electronic issuing procedure for the apostille. This promises to further speed up the verification process in future.

The apostille as an additional service for a superlative service package
SemioticTransfer AG has a large network of officially sworn and certified translators who are there to translate your document into all EU languages as well as the main world languages, e.g. Chinese or Arabic. We assure superlative quality with our translations because all our translators are native speakers who not only have a perfect command of the target language but are also entirely familiar with the cultural circumstances of their home country.
This eliminates the possibility of the kind of misunderstandings that less well-versed translators can make when faced with turns of phrase capable of several interpretations. We also take great pleasure in issuing the apostille for your document. Please don’t be surprised about this – regardless of the intended country for a translation, the header always employs the French form of words: ‘Apostille – Convention de La Haye du 5 octobre 1961’ [Apostille – Hague Convention dated 5 October 1961].
